Share on FacebookA few days ago, without any configuartion changes or installation changes on a small business server (SBS 2003) I look after, Outlook web access, the web interface mail client program to MS Exchange 2003 simply stopped rendering content in the browser and started throwing 404 page not found errors.
It was still possible to get through Remote Web Workplace, but clicking the link to Outlook web Access from the Remote Web Workplace page then resulted in a 404 error.
Googling for a solution lead me to a couple of microsoft articles, but none of them resolved the problem. It appear to me that the error in question had so many causes, that it was very difficult to identify the single/root cause for my particular server/case. Since most of these articles did not solve my problem, I am not referencing them in this post.
After a few moments of despair, I checked for the availability of service packs for MS Exchange 2003 and found out I did not have Service pack 2 installed. So I downloaded it from this link:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/exchange/downloads/2003/sp2/download.mspx,
installed it and Bingo, I was back in business. OWA was working perfectly as before.
I hope this post saves someone else in a similar situation some precious time.
